Sep 2018 – Jan 2019 | The Dance Complex | Cambridge, Massachusetts | More info & tickets
Rebecca McGowan, Julia Friend, and I are performing a new work this month as part of our CATALYSTS Residency at the Dance Complex in Cambridge. We’ve expanded our two previous collaborations into a longer work combining step-dance, shadow theater, traditional ballads, and banjo:
Dancing fingers and feet cast large shadows against walls and screens, inviting us to take a closer look at details we might have missed.
Banjo and feet dance at the clipped pace of a sewing machine while we hear the sung tale of a woman who sews trim on her wedding dress day after day—but won’t say yes, and won’t say no.
Traditional American music blends with percussive dance & shadow theater in an exploration of femininity, yearning, and memory.
Residency showcase: January 12 & 13; 19 & 20; 25 & 26
This new piece we’ve made will be presented on three weekends alongside work by the other artists in the residency cohort, Dawn Kramer, Aysha Upchurch, and Ali Kenner Brodsky.
