Aug 3: Rooftop improv at Studio550

Video/projection artist and dancer/choreographer Callie Chapman runs a fantastic space over at Studio550. I was tickled to be invited for an evening of improvisation—performers were drawn out of jars, so truly no one knew in advance what would transpire on that warm, summery, astroturf-clad rooftop. I brought materials from my recent body of work to improvise with: the round shadow screens used in Sound Shadows, used with hands, hair, and lace inspired by the recent body of work that I’ve been developing in Montreal in my Casteliers residency, and at home with Puppet Showplace and Central Square Theater.
