Magic Pearl wins Henson Foundation & Live Arts Boston grants

After a COVID-induced hiatus, Magic Pearl is back, baybee!

We’re so excited to have received a 2022 family grant from The Jim Henson Foundation

…and a Live Arts Boston grant from The Boston Foundation!

This will allow us to finish building the show! We will complete the show with the support of creative development residencies at Mátti Kovler’s new Floating Tower artist residency center in North Adams, MA, as well as Puppet Showplace Theater back home in Boston. Then on to a February 2023 premiere at Puppet Showplace!

Magic Pearl is an original shadow puppet production with a story based on an ancient Chinese folktale, featuring live original music of flute, cello, and percussion. The story follows two unlikely friends — Dragon and Phoenix — in a heartfelt, humorous story of otherworldly creation, loss, and adaptation to change.
