I recently composed and performed music for Caryl Churchill’s Vinegar Tom, presented by Whistler in the Dark at the Boston Center for the Arts.
(Listen to music samples here!)
It’s “a play about witches with no witches in it,” in the words of playwright Caryl Churchill. A play with music, but not a musical (Music arranged and performed by bassist Tony Leva and me; new music to Churchill’s lyrics was composed for this production by me, Molly Allis and Juliet Olivier). A play that deals with accusations of witchcraft, brutal interrogations, and hangings of “evil women”, and yet because Caryl Churchill is a brilliant playwright, there’s still room for a vaudeville sequence, foley sound effects, and snappy dance moves.
I so wish I could have seen this performance! I guess I’ll just have to wait until you do a studio recording! <3
