January 2020: Japan with Kid Koala’s Nufonia Must Fall
I spent January on tour with Kid Koala’s Nufonia Must Fall to Osaka and Tokyo, Japan! Such a pleasure to puppeteer this show, while also taking in bunraku, butoh, and kabuki performances on my days off.

Morning sounds at #OsakaCastle π―π
1. So many bicycles, so few locks! π Note Osaka Castle up the hill to the right. 2. The crows here just sound really good to me. 3. A group of ~10 old men who sang together, directed out toward the empty plaza, but to no one in particular. First, they sang together, then they took turns delivering soulful solo songs, applauding each other after each one. The solo songs had a baleful tone, minor key, and bright vocal timbre that made me think of Appalachian ballads. Then after about 20-30 minutes of this, they hopped on their bikes, smiling and chatting with each other, and rode off down the hill. I wish I had asked them what they were singing! #osakajapan #veronicainjapan2020 #nufoniamustfalltour #puppettour #morningsounds #soundtourism #audiovacation
