You may think it’s a sweet lullaby…but then you listen to the verses…
Tony Leva and I share a love of the Lead Belly tune “Good Night Irene”—in fact, I think it was the first song we ever played the first time we jammed together, prior to our collaboration on Vinegar Tom.
Happily, we had the chance to play it as part of our set at Amy Kucharik‘s Kickstarter launch party on Saturday—our first occasion playing out together since Vinegar Tom closed!
Amy plays jazzy/bluesy/folky original tunes on her ukulele with a full band, and her Kickstarter is raising money to finance the recording of her first studio album—check out her very funny Kickstarter video to get introduced.
I also thoroughly enjoyed every other band that played that night: Erica Leigh‘s powerful, smoky voice; George Woods‘s articulate and delicate guitar-playing on “Try A Little Tenderness”; a great Americana group (whose name I did not get) with tight vocal harmonies and a cello (!); Amy and her band; and then Keith Kusterer and the Goods kept us hopping and dancing until the party closed down, which I greatly appreciated.
